Proposed schedule includes:
8:00am - 4:30pm shifts

Summary:
Recreation Therapist I
To implement and review recreational therapy activities in order to promote the constructive use of leisure time, physical well-being and socialization of patients/clients/residents in the New Hampshire Veterans Home.
Recreation Therapist II
To provide recreational therapy review and evaluation and to develop and implement recreational therapy treatment programs in the New Hampshire Veterans Home.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience: Equivalent combination of 3 years of education and experience after completion of high school.
License/Certification:
1. National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) and authorization to use the initials of CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist)
2. Recreational Therapist license valid in NH

1. One year of employment in the current job title
2. Satisfactory performance evaluation within the past 12 months
3. Recommendation for promotion by supervisor(s) and approval by the director of nursing
RECREATION THERAPIST II

Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree and 1 year of experience OR equivalent combination of 5 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Must include at least 1 year working as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).

Responsibilities:
RECREATION THERAPIST I
DETAILED TASKS (AGENCY/POSITION-SPECIFIC):
Advises staff of recreational activity needs of patients/clients/residents to meet recreational therapy program objectives.
Explains the effect of combining recreational therapy programs with other treatment strategies and activities to recommend appropriate recreational therapy programs.
Updates patient/client/resident documentation and evaluation reports to ensure resident records are current.
Instructs recreational therapy groups to meet recreational therapy program objectives.
Selects and stores recreational equipment and ensures that equipment is maintained properly.
Participates in conferences with other professionals to discuss and evaluate resident needs.
RECREATION THERAPIST II
DETAILED TASKS (AGENCY/POSITION-SPECIFIC):
Coordinates various recreational treatment programs including intergenerational activities, community based activities, and physical wellness programs.
Supervises and trains new staff providing ongoing support and facilitates training as needed.
Ensures that recreational therapy treatment quality standards are met.
Advises management regarding activities and makes appropriate recommendations for ways to improve processes and procedures.
Provides timely resolution of issues and makes day-to-day decisions as authorized by the program manager.
Consults with other departments and disciplines to devise resident needs plan.
Conducts needs assessment in order to individualize recreational therapy activities and group programs to improve the functional abilities of residents.
Researches and recommends new devices and supplies and oversees the necessary maintenance on current equipment in use.
