Position Summary
The Accounting Specialist is responsible for the accounting related to revenue, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and credit card expenses. This role ensures accurate recording of contributions honoring donor intent, timely processing of vendor invoices and expense reports, proper credit coding and reconciliation, in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit reporting standards. The Accounting Specialist helps build and maintain accounting processes, conducts research that supports finance goals, and develops best practices to improve efficiency. Working closely with the development and finance teams, this position supports the management of accounting and financial systems to strengthen financial operations and advance the VCP mission.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate daily gift entry, including proper coding for the finance and development departments, record deposits in the accounting system, and process bank deposits.
- Perform monthly reconciliation between the accounting system and CRM to ensure gift and donor data are accurate, complete, and aligned across systems.
- Process accounts payable with proper coding, including vendor setup, invoice review, payment processing and ensuring current W-9 forms are on file for all vendors.
- Review all credit card transactions for proper receipts and coding; manage the integration with the system of record.
- Assist in monitoring operating budget variances.
- Assist with maintaining the organization's general ledger software (currently Intacct) ensuring systems are in place to accurately maintain records, optimize system tools, and access accounting data.
- Create, maintain, and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to revenue recognition, accounts payable, and financial processes.
- Assist with month-end close, reconciliations, and journal entries.
- Support preparation of financial information for grant reports, compliance submissions, and annual audits.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial tracking and reporting systems.
- Communicate with external and internal stakeholders over the phone and in person to support all teams.
- Foster relationships with other departments at VCP to build a cooperative and effective program and promote a culture of philanthropy.
- Be able to share the VCP story and Mission Statement.
- Passion for the mission of VCP.
- Experience with nonprofit accounting and reconciliations is preferred.
- Experience with budget management and financial reporting is preferred.
- Knowledge of general ledger software is preferred (i.e.: Microsoft Dynamics, Intacct). Knowledge of CRM software is preferred (i.e.: Raiser’s Edge, Virtuous, Salesforce).
- Advanced knowledge of technical computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), including the ability to utilize technology for research is required.
- Must possess intellectual curiosity and a desire to continuously learn and grow as well as curiosity to understand how your job impacts the work of others. Self-motivated to set, attain, and surpass goals, with minimal supervision.
- Commitment to maintain confidentiality of information, records, and materials.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external constituents.
- Flexibility is a key attribute for this position. VCP is a fast-paced environment. A willingness to take on additional duties, or change course, to ensure the success of the organization is essential.
- It’s essential to have strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Must have the ability to manage projects, workload, and engage constructively with the other members of the VCP team.
- Strong performance management and evaluation capabilities are required, including willingness and ability to ensure accountability.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Must possess a valid driver's license, maintain an insurable driving record, and be able to operate an agency vehicle as required by the position.

Salary : $50,000 - $55,000
