What are the responsibilities and job description for the 1st Class Pipefitter (Maritime) position at Veterans Alliance?
Overview
We are seeking highly skilled and motivated 1st Class Pipefitters to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 4 years of experience working as a 1st class pipefitter, have at least some marine/shipyard experience and have experience working with PVC Pipe and copper gaskets (connectors), steel, copper-nickel, stainless. This is a long-term/ permanent career opportunity - NOT a short term contract, so candidates for this role should be career minded and be looking for long-term employment (not temporary).
Responsibilities
- layout, fabrication, and installing valves, hangers, and supports, often in confined spaces or at heights
- Fabrication & Installation: Assemble, install, and align pipe systems, including valves, flanges, and supports, adhering to precise blueprints and specifications.
- Material Handling: Work with various materials such as steel, stainless steel, copper-nickel, and galvanized pipe.
- Drafting & Layout: Read and interpret complex drawings, blueprints, and ISOs to calculate layouts using both metric and standard measurements.
- Tool Operation: Utilize various tools, including hand torches, grinders, hydraulic jacks, chain falls, and pipe-bending machinery.
- System Testing: Support the testing of marine piping systems, including hydraulic, fire main, fuel oil, and compressed air systems.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to safety procedures, working in diverse conditions including extreme heights, confined spaces, and various weather conditions.
Experience & Qualifiers:
- Minimum of 4 years of experience working as a 1st class pipefitter
- At least SOME experience working in a shipyard (preferably new construction) Previous New Construction Naval Shipbuilding experience is a big plus
- Strong proficiency in layout, fit-up, and advanced blueprint reading
- Ability to pass a written test and a hands-on weld/fit test
- Must be located in the US & Be eligible/authorized to work in the US without VISA sponsorship
- Must be willing/able to work day shift OR night shift (see employment details below )
- Must be able to travel to Mobile, AL AT LEAST 24hrs prior to your test date to complete pre-testing paperwork
- Must be able to provide: A valid state issued ID, a Social Security Card & either your original or a certified copy of your birth certificate (Names must appear identically on all forms of ID - for women who may have married/changed their name: The names must appear identically on your ID and Social Security card)
- If you would be relocating for this opportunity, you would qualify for per diem (see employment details) you will need to be able to supply your per diem backup document prior to testing.
- Must be able to Pass a 10 year criminal history background check (no violent felonies ever, no drug related felonies in the last 3 years)
- Must be able to pass a hair follicle drug screen
- Must be able to pass a respirator fit test (Once you pass your assessment, you will be immediately cleared to take a respirator fit test - YOU MUST BE CLEAN SHAVEN FOR THIS TEST - you can regrow facial hair after you complete the fit test)
- Must be able to commute to or relocate to the Pascagoula, MS area prior to starting work (Per Diem is offered to those who qualify - see "Employment Details" below)
Employment Details:
- Compensation: $42/hr
- Overtime: $63/hr
- Schedule: Shift hours will be discussed upon application competition, but it will be a 5/8s schedule (Mon-Fri)
- ** AT THIS TIME, SHIFT PREFERENCES CANNOT BE ACCOMMODATED** Candidates must be able/willing to start work on day shift OR night shift.
- Per Diem: $180/ per day for days worked. This is on top of/ in addition to your hourly rate. ** YOU MUST BE ABLE TO PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTATION TO QUALIFY FOR PER DIEM. You must be able to provide this document prior to your test date.**: If you are located 75 miles from the job site in Pascagoula, MS and you are able to provide a utility bill (Gas, Water, Power) that is in your name and is associated with an address that is 75 miles away from the job location, you will qualify for per diem.
- Potential weekly Compensation WITH Per Diem: (No overtime included) at 40hrs at $42/hr = $1,680 $180/per days worked at 5 days = $2,580/per week
