Volunteer Program Manager (Support Staff)
Job Overview
The Volunteer Program Manager is a key operational leader within the Volunteer Directorate (Human Resources). This role ensures that VPMMA's 100% volunteer workforce is supported from recruitment through offboarding. Working directly with the Director of Volunteers and the Chief Volunteer Officer, you will manage the systems and standards that enable our "Support Staff Volunteers" to thrive while contributing to our mission to serve veterans and military spouses.

We aim to build a strong, supportive community through mentorship, networking, and professional development, and we strongly believe in the transformative power of project management skills for veterans.

Volunteer Program Manager (Support Staff)
Job Overview

- Recruitment & Intake Oversight (1.5 hours) Coordinate with Digital Recruiters to ensure a steady pipeline of qualified candidates for open positions. Review volunteer applications to ensure alignment with VPMMA's mission and values.
- Onboarding & Orientation Coordination (1 hour) Manage the onboarding journey for new staff, ensuring they receive the Volunteer Handbook, sign the Volunteer Agreement, and understand the organization's ethical guidelines.
- Professional Development & Retention (1.5 hours) Identify and promote training opportunities, such as access to Google Certificates on Coursera, to enhance volunteer skills and capabilities. Support the execution of recognition programs, such as "Volunteer of the Month," to foster a sense of fulfillment.
- Offboarding & Process Documentation (1 hour) Manage the offboarding process, ensuring that existing volunteers provide feedback and that a letter of recommendation is provided for significant contributors. Keep the volunteer knowledge base and process documentation up to date.
- Organizational Leadership Experience in HR, project management, or volunteer coordination.
- Technical Proficiency Strong skills in Google Workspace and experience using CRMs or project tools like Flowlu
- Communication Ability to collaborate across remote teams and communicate VPMMA's mission with passion.
- Relationship Management Skilled in coaching, feedback, and fostering a supportive community environment.
- Type Volunteer / Remote.
- Time Commitment 5 hours per week.
- Directorate Volunteers (Human Resources Committee).
- Reporting Structure Direct Report to the Director of Volunteers; supports the Chief Volunteer Officer.
- Reliability Commit to a regular schedule and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner. Notify leadership as early as possible if you are unable to fulfill an assigned task.
