Senior Maintenance Technician II
Responsibilities
Key Accountabilities
- Performs routine preventative maintenance on laboratory and facility equipment. Including but not limited to: HVAC units, heat exchangers, natural gas fired kilns, induction furnaces, electrical resistance kilns, dust collectors, drying ovens, and hydraulic presses.
- Able to recognize operational deficiencies with equipment and make recommendations for repair or upgrade.
- Works well with a partner as well as alone with openness to learn.
- Works closely with Lab Manager to prioritize PM and repair priorities as well as recommend PM process improvements.
- Is highly detailed and used to documenting repairs and making short summaries on work performed.
- Utilizes lab wide CMMS system to schedule PM, document repairs, manage work orders, and suggest improvement opportunities.
- Participates in the design, planning, and execution of lab construction/installation projects.
- Utilizes honed communication skills to interact with vendors in person, over-the-phone, and email.
- Is eager to learn new skillsets and acquire certifications related to body of work.
- Manages spare part inventory alongside Lab Manager and diligently notifies staff of downed and returned to service equipment.
- Builds prototypes and assists in design of experiments with engineers.
- Adheres to all Vesuvius health and safety policies.
- Builds working relationships with vendors to diagnose and resolve issue as soon as possible.
- Maintains a clean, well-organized workspace and recognizes housekeeping as part of each project.
Knowledge/Experience Needed:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
- Additional training or related experience to maintenance is preferred.
- Basic computer/tablet skills working within Microsoft product suite.
- Familiar working within a Preventative Maintenance program, CMMS experience preferred.
- Ability to read blueprints and follow project plans.
- Mechanical skills in the following areas:
- Basic electrical (minimum)
- Plumbing
- Carpentry
- Welding/cutting/brazing
- Masonry
- HVAC
