Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Service Writer to join our automotive service team. In this vital role, you will serve as the primary point of contact for customers bringing their vehicles in for maintenance and repairs. Your energetic approach will ensure a smooth flow of communication between customers, technicians, and management, while providing exceptional customer service. Your automotive knowledge and sales skills will help identify customer needs, recommend appropriate services, and promote additional repairs or upgrades to enhance vehicle performance and safety. Duties
- Greet customers warmly and listen attentively to understand their vehicle concerns and service needs
- Write detailed service estimates using auto estimating software, clearly explaining recommended repairs and maintenance procedures
- Coordinate with technicians to prioritize repairs and ensure timely completion of services such as oil changes, brake repairs, transmission work, suspension, alignments, tire services, diesel engine repairs, shocks & struts, air brake systems, and auto body repairs
- Upsell additional services or products by highlighting vehicle benefits and maintenance importance while maintaining transparency
- Handle cash transactions accurately and process payments efficiently
- Maintain detailed records of all customer interactions, estimates, work orders, and service history
- Communicate effectively with customers regarding vehicle status updates and repair recommendations to ensure satisfaction
Qualifications
- Proven dealership experience or automotive service management background is highly preferred
- Strong knowledge of automotive diagnostics, mechanical systems, and repair procedures including transmissions, oil changes, brake repair, suspensions, alignments, tire services, diesel engines, shocks & struts, air brakes, and auto body work
- Experience in auto estimating software and automotive sales techniques
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical clients
- Mechanical knowledge combined with service technician experience is a plus
- Ability to upsell effectively while maintaining integrity and transparency
- Familiarity with dealership operations including cash handling and automobile sales processes
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is often required
