Vernovis is looking for a Senior Mainframe Systems Administrator who will manage and maintain our client’s z/OS and z/VM platforms that support critical business applications. You will oversee system performance, capacity, security administration, and operational reliability. Your day will include monitoring system health, implementing maintenance and upgrades, coordinating with internal IT teams on incident resolution, and ensuring stable and compliant mainframe operations. This role is best suited for someone who enjoys deep technical problem?solving, structured operational work, and maintaining high?availability environments in a financial setting.

What You'll Do:
- Administer and support enterprise IBM mainframe environments, including z/OS and z/VM, ensuring high availability for critical business applications.
- Monitor system health, performance, and batch operations using tools such as SDSF, ISPF, and JCL, resolving issues proactively.
- Perform system maintenance activities including patching, upgrades, IPL planning, capacity management, and disaster recovery readiness.
- Manage security administration, user access controls, RACF/permissions, and compliance standards within a regulated financial environment.
- Partner with infrastructure, networking, storage, and application teams to troubleshoot incidents, optimize operations, and improve automation.
- Technologies used:
- z/OS: Core operating system administration and maintenance.
- z/VM: Virtualization management for mainframe workloads.
- JCL: Job control for batch processing and operational workflows.
- Security administration and access management
- SDSF/ISPF: System monitoring, analysis, and command interfaces.
- Performance monitoring and capacity planning.
- Mainframe automation tools (e.g., OPS/MVS, System Automation).
- Networking and storage utilities supporting mainframe operations.
- Strong hands-on experience administering IBM z/OS and z/VM mainframe systems in a production environment.
- Proficiency with JCL, SDSF, ISPF, TSO, and core mainframe operational utilities.
- Experience with mainframe security administration, including access management, RACF, or similar controls.
- Knowledge of performance tuning, capacity planning, batch scheduling, storage, and system monitoring.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues and work cross-functionally in a 24x7 mission-critical environment.
