Engtal is partnering with a PE-backed market leader headquartered in Rosemont on a high-visibility Assistant Controller search. The company recently moved to a public-entity-compliant audit as part of its next phase of growth, and this role will sit at the center of that reporting function.
About the Role
Reporting to the Corporate Controller with direct visibility to the CFO, the Assistant Controller will own the reporting workstream and serve as the quality gate before financials reach senior leadership. This is a build-and-own opportunity for someone who thrives in the details and wants to be a key player as the company scales.
What You'll Do
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close and reporting activities in accordance with GAAP
- Prepare financial statements, supporting schedules, and variance analysis
- Partner directly with external auditors (Big 4) on audit schedules, documentation, and inquiries
- Support and enforce internal controls, accounting policies, and audit readiness
- Reconcile GL accounts, fixed asset schedules, depreciation, and disposals
- Contribute to continuous improvement of reporting processes and system data integrity
- Support special projects including acquisition accounting and ERP-related initiatives
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (CPA strongly preferred)
- 5 years of progressive experience, ideally from public accounting (Big 4 or strong regional) or a public / public-compliant company with hands-on financial reporting experience
- Strong command of GAAP, with exposure to audit readiness and consolidations
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, acquisition-driven environment
- Detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and comfortable being the last set of eyes on the numbers
- Multi-location businesses is a plus, not a requirement

- On-site Monday through Friday in Rosemont, IL
- $130-150K base plus profit sharing
