Key Responsibilities
Appeals:
- Designate, review, and analyze lower court records and documents
- Monitor appellate dockets and deadlines
- Research and analyze case law and draft persuasive appellate briefs, motions, and applications
- Advocate in appellate courts before justices
- Advise trial attorneys and claims specialists regarding writ petitions and appellate strategy
- Assist in framing issues at trial and preserving the record for appeal
- Prepare pleadings and motions
- Provide litigation support to attorneys for trial and arbitration
- Formulate creative pleading and motion strategies
- Obtain concurrence from claims specialists and attorneys for law and motion strategy
- Attend court appearances and argue motions
- Ensure compliance with Defense Attorney Guidelines
- Perform other duties as necessary to support litigation and appellate practice
- J.D. degree from an accredited law school
- Active California Bar license
- Experience drafting appellate briefs, motions, and pleadings
- Knowledge of trial and appellate court procedures in medical malpractice defense
- Strong legal research and writing skills
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet deadlines
