Position Overview:
Our client, a respected medical malpractice defense firm, is seeking a highly skilled Law & Motion / Appeal Attorney to handle complex motion practice and appellate work on CAPIC litigated matters. This attorney will draft appellate briefs, motions, and pleadings; advise litigation teams throughout all phases of trial; and provide strategic analysis of legal issues to support efficient, cost-effective case outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Appellate Practice
- Designate, review, and analyze lower court records and related documents.
- Monitor appellate dockets and manage deadlines.
- Research and analyze case law; draft persuasive appellate briefs, motions, applications, and supporting documents.
- Represent clients in appellate courts, advocating before appellate justices.
- Assist in-house and panel trial counsel in issue framing and record preservation for appeal.
- Provide guidance to trial teams and claims specialists regarding writ petitions.
- Law & Motion Support:
- Prepare motions, pleadings, and supporting materials.
- Support attorneys in all phases of litigation to maximize successful trial and arbitration outcomes.
- Develop creative, effective motion and pleading strategies.
- Coordinate and obtain concurrence from attorneys and claims specialists on strategy.
- Attend court hearings and oral arguments on motions.
- Ensure compliance with Defense Attorney Guidelines.
- General Duties:
- Provide legal research, analysis, and written opinions as required.
- Assess key issues and deliver strategic recommendations.
- Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
Education & Experience:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Significant experience in appellate practice and complex motion drafting preferred—especially within medical malpractice defense.
Licenses & Skills:
- Active California Bar License required.
- Strong computer proficiency and familiarity with online legal research platforms.
- Exceptional legal writing and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
Salary : $150,000 - $180,000
