Role: Engineering Technician D
Location: Palm Bay, Florida
Job Type: Full-Time | Onsite
Work Schedule: 9/80 (Every other Friday off)

Precision lab / manufacturing / defense environment
Hands-on technical role supporting photonics and system integration
High standards for quality, safety, and documentation
The Engineering Technician D supports fabrication, assembly, integration, and testing of photonic and precision components in a defense environment. This role requires strong hands-on technical skills, the ability to interpret engineering drawings, and experience working with machining or lab equipment.
Candidates from electronics, mechanical, optical, or manufacturing backgrounds are encouraged, with training provided for photonics-specific skills such as fiber optics handling and optical alignment.
Key Responsibilities
Fabrication & Assembly
Perform precision fabrication, assembly, and inspection of components
Execute tasks including:
Optical fiber splicing and recoating
Photonic circuit assembly
Mechanical builds and metal soldering
Testing & Integration
Integrate optical/electronic equipment (laser sources, power meters, monitoring systems)
Support system testing, validation, and calibration
Follow detailed architecture and wiring diagrams
Technical Operations
Interpret engineering drawings, technical procedures, and specifications
Operate machining tools (lathe, mill, CNC)
Maintain lab systems (wire bonding, photomasking, epoxy application)
Quality & Maintenance
Perform preventative maintenance and calibration support
Maintain clean, organized, and controlled workspaces
Ensure adherence to quality and process standards
Collaboration
Communicate with engineering and leadership teams
Ensure deliverables meet cost, schedule, and quality expectations
Must-Have Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
6 years of relevant experience OR
Associate's Degree 2 years of experience
Active TS/SCI Clearance (Mandatory)
Experience with:
Engineering drawings and technical instructions
Lab / manufacturing / assembly environments
Machining tools (lathe, mill, CNC) or similar
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with photonics or optical systems
Background in electronics, mechanical systems, or precision assembly
Experience in DoD lab / defense environments
Familiarity with fiber optics, optical alignment, or laser systems
