Paving Superintendent β DOT Projects

About the Role:
We are looking for an experienced Paving Superintendent to lead and manage asphalt paving operations for Department of Transportation (DOT) projects throughout the Columbia, SC region. The Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing field activities, ensuring quality workmanship, maintaining project schedules, and promoting the highest standards of safety and productivity.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct and supervise multiple asphalt paving crews on DOT roadway projects.
Plan, coordinate, and schedule daily paving operations to meet contract specifications and deadlines.
Ensure projects are delivered safely, on-time, within budget, and to quality standards.
Interface regularly with project managers, inspectors, subcontractors, and DOT representatives.
Monitor equipment, materials, and workforce needs across job sites.
Conduct daily jobsite safety inspections and enforce company and DOT safety standards.
Review project plans and specifications to ensure work is completed correctly.
Train, mentor, and evaluate crew members to promote a skilled and efficient workforce.
Troubleshoot on-site challenges and provide effective solutions.
Prepare and submit daily reports on production, weather, incidents, and personnel hours.
Maintain strong working relationships with DOT engineers and inspectors.
Requirements:
Minimum 5 years of experience as a Paving Foreman or Superintendent on DOT projects.
In-depth knowledge of asphalt paving techniques, materials, equipment, and DOT specifications.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, project documents, and DOT standards.
Proficiency with scheduling software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Commitment to enforcing safety protocols and procedures.
Valid driver's license; CDL preferred but not required.
Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as project demands dictate.
Ability to travel locally to multiple job sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
SCDOT (South Carolina Department of Transportation) project experience.
OSHA 30 Certification.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
Associate's degree or higher in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred but not required).
