About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and driven Substation Construction Project Manager to lead the successful execution of high-voltage substation projects in the Phoenix area and surrounding regions. This role is critical in ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in substation construction, excellent leadership skills, and proven project management experience in the utility or EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage all phases of substation construction projects from initial planning through closeout.
Develop, update, and maintain project schedules, budgets, work plans, and resource forecasts.
Coordinate effectively with engineering teams, clients, subcontractors, field crews, and internal departments.
Lead construction meetings, monitor daily field activities, and ensure quality control and compliance with client specifications and industry standards.
Oversee contract negotiations, change order management, procurement, and subcontractor performance.
Ensure adherence to safety programs and all federal, state, and local regulations (OSHA, NEC, NESC).
Identify project risks and proactively implement mitigation strategies.
Prepare and present project status reports to clients and company leadership.
Build and maintain strong client relationships to encourage repeat business and long-term partnerships.
Serve as the main point of contact for clients, vendors, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements:
Minimum 5 years of project management experience in substation construction (69kV–500kV preferred).
Solid understanding of civil, structural, and electrical aspects of substation projects.
Demonstrated success managing multi-million dollar construction projects within the utility, EPC, or transmission/distribution sectors.
Familiarity with utility standards (e.g., APS, SRP) and permitting processes in Arizona.
Proficient with project management tools (Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or equivalent) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and negotiation skills.
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred (or equivalent work experience).
OSHA 30 Certification or ability to obtain promptly.
Valid driver’s license; local and regional travel required.
Preferred Qualifications:
PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is a plus.
Experience with EPC project delivery models.
Familiarity with Arizona environmental, permitting, and regulatory compliance requirements.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
