Position Summary

Insight Hospital and Medical Center Chicago is seeking compassionate, skilled, and dedicated Registered Nurses (RNs) to join our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) team. The ICU RN plays a critical role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals with complex and life-threatening medical conditions. This position requires advanced clinical judgment, strong critical thinking skills, and the ability to respond effectively in emergency situations while collaborating with an interdisciplinary healthcare team.

The ICU Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care, monitoring critically ill patients, administering medications and treatments, managing life-support equipment, and ensuring optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate commitment to the organization's patient care model, nursing vision, and strategic goals.
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care.
  • Utilize the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to coordinate outcome-focused patient care.
  • Monitor and interpret patients' vital signs, cardiac rhythms, laboratory results, and clinical status.
  • Administer medications, intravenous therapies, blood products, and other prescribed treatments safely and accurately.
  • Operate, monitor, and maintain critical care equipment, including ventilators, intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), and other advanced life-support systems.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies and changes in patient condition.
  • Conduct diagnostic testing and support follow-up care activities.
  • Clean, assess, and redress surgical sites and other wounds as required.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete patient documentation and medical records.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families through effective communication and collaborative care planning.
  • Incorporate holistic nursing principles into patient care delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, infection prevention protocols, patient safety initiatives, and nursing practice standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives designed to enhance clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and nursing excellence.
  • Contribute to departmental goals, process improvements, and organizational success.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold professional nursing standards.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QualificationsEducation

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited nursing program preferred.

Licensure & Certifications

  • Current and active Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Military Training Network accepted).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience required.
  • ICU or Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) experience preferred.
  • Two or more years of critical care nursing experience strongly preferred.
