Responsibilities
- Safety Policy Development: Create and implement comprehensive safety protocols, including accident prevention measures and driver handbooks.
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain 100% compliance with FMCSA, DOT, and OSHA regulations, including managing Driver Qualification (DQ) files and Hours of Service (HOS) logs.
- Driver Training & Coaching: Conduct initial orientations and ongoing safety meetings. Use telematics data to coach drivers on behaviors like speeding or harsh braking.
- Incident Management: Lead investigations for all vehicle accidents, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Safety Audits: Perform regular terminal, facility, and field audits to identify potential hazards and ensure adherence to safety programs.
- Maintenance Oversight: Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure all vehicles undergo required inspections (e.g., CVIPs) and preventative maintenance.
Key Skills & Qualifications
- Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of FMCSA, DOT, and OSHA standards is essential.
- Technical Proficiency: Experience with Telematics (e.g., Geotab, Samsara), Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs), and Fleet Management Software (FMS).
- Experience: Typically requires 3–5 years in transportation safety or logistics management.
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Logistics, or a related field is often preferred.
- Certifications: Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Director of Safety (CDS) are highly beneficial.
