What are the responsibilities and job description for the Founding GTM position at Variant (a16z SR006)?
Company Description
Variant is pioneering the Adaptive Web by enabling websites to become more responsive and intuitive. Through a lightweight AI layer, Variant detects user intent and friction on websites, adapting experiences in real time to reduce drop-off and improve conversion rates. With no need for a website redesign or rebuild, Variant helps transform static sites into dynamic, attentive platforms. With leading brands in Israel and the US, backed by a16z and top Silicon Valley VCs, our mission is to create online experiences that feel personalized, responsive, and ultimately more human.
Variant is looking for its first marketer to join early and own how Variant shows up in the world — brand, content, events, positioning, and voice, end-to-end.
What you'll do
- Own the full sales cycle — prospecting, demos, negotiation, and close — with eCommerce brands in the US.
- Build an AI-powered outbound machine — design the systems, agents, and workflows that source pipeline at scale (data enrichment, signal-based triggers, AI-personalized sequences).
- Develop partnerships with agencies, tech partners, and the broader eCommerce ecosystem
- Build and nurture community - eCommerce operators, CRO leaders, founders — through dinners, events, Slack groups, and 1:1s
- Translate customer and prospect signal into product insights and help shape the roadmap
- Develop the GTM playbook and motion as we scale — ICP, messaging, pricing, qualification, handoffs
- Work shoulder-to-shoulder with the founders to define category, land lighthouse customers, and set the standard for every GTM hire after you
What we're looking for
- 4 years in eCommerce tech sales — you've sold tech into DTC, retail, or eCommerce brands and consistently hit numbers
- A real network in the eCommerce ecosystem: operators, agencies, platforms that you can activate from day one
- Managerial experience — you've hired, coached, and led GTM talent (AEs, SDRs, partnerships) and know how to set a team up to win
- Hands-on experience building partnerships.
- Comfortable doing your own outbound, writing the cold emails, sending the LinkedIn notes, working the events
- Hands-on with AI tools as part of your daily workflow — using them to research accounts, draft outreach, build collateral, and move 10x faster.
- Builder mentality — hands-on by default, ships fast, builds the playbook while running the play
- Strong commercial instincts paired with genuine curiosity about CRO, personalization, and how brands actually grow
- Fluent in English (mother-tongue English is a MUST); Hebrew a strong plus
- Thrive in fast-paced environments and enjoy taking full ownership
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and motivated by impact — not bureaucracy
