Position Title: Intermediate Accountant - GL (Non – LO – No Consumer Contact)
Department: Accounting & Finance Job Status: Full Time/Salary
Reports to: Accounting Supervisor- GL Amount of Travel: None
Pay: The expected hiring range for this position is from $64,400 to $80,500 plus additional bonus opportunity. The stated hiring range is based on experience, qualifications, and other relevant factors. Final compensation decisions will take into account a variety of considerations, including individual skills, internal equity, and organizational needs.

JOB SUMMARY
The Intermediate Accountant - GL collaborates with team members and other departments daily to review and reconcile General Ledger accounts for VMF. This position reports to the Accounting Supervisor – GL and performs monthly and quarterly tasks, including journal entries to accurately monitor accounts for the month-end close process. The Intermediate Accountant – GL is responsible for researching discrepancies while also serving as the point of contact for Staff Accountants’ questions. This position supports modernizing current accounting processes and is expected to have a good understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
JOB FUNCTIONS
Preparing Daily Reconciliations and Researching Identified Outages
  • Prepares advanced trial balance reconciliations by generating queries from Sequel ViewPoint and Oracle.
  • Verifies query results match with General Ledger.
  • Collaborates with departments to research and offer solutions to discrepancies.
  • Prepares journal entries to correct discrepancies.
Monthly Close Tasks
  • Executes various high-risk end of month reports and financial analysis.
  • Completes tasks in the order of an assigned timeline.
  • Updates queries and formats data as necessary.
  • Assumes responsibility for final iteration.
  • Prepares files used by Clayton Corporate.
  • Develops reports and deliverables for management and communicates with stakeholders.
Monitoring and reconciling payable and receivable accounts weekly
  • Maintains assigned scheduled moderately complex accounts.
  • Formats and sends aged copies of scheduled accounts to departments inside and outside of Accounting.
  • Researches and makes journal entries to clear fees and funds.
Preparation of Quarterly Presentations
  • Evaluates fluctuations and notates reasons for changes in General Ledger accounts.
  • Tracks payable and receivable accounts for loan fees and funds.
  • Presents researched information to management.
Training and Development
  • Trains Staff Accountants on primary responsibilities.
  • Serves as first level of review for Staff Accountants’ work to identify and discuss areas of improvement.
  • Completes Vanderbilt assigned training courses to support a working knowledge of business practices.
  • Maintains moderately advanced knowledge and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting/Finance required.
  • 2-4 years’ experience in Accounting or related field required.
  • Querying skills, knowledge of Sequel ViewPoint, Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), AS400, Accounting related Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system a plus.
  • Experience with Excel, including its formulas and advanced features.
  • Experience with regulations regarding loan servicing a plus.
  • Ability to maintain an excellent understanding of VMF policies and procedures.
  • Open to receive and implement feedback.
  • Attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management.
  • Capable of dealing with changes that can and will occur periodically.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and work independently.
  • Motivated and self-starter.
  • Good sense of urgency and follow up.
  • Ability to manage multiple and/or conflicting responsibilities.

  • Ability to logically understand query definitions and analyze data effectively and efficiently.
  • Drive to take on more complex reconciliations that require a higher level of problem solving.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently via phone, email, and person to person.
  • Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.
  • Will be operating a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a telephone, calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Must be comfortable with various forms of communication including but not limited to email, Teams, over the phone, and Zoom.
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information at all times.
  • Will work in a state-of-the-art indoor temperature controlled, sealed window office environment.
