The VDOT Bristol District is excited to announce an opportunity to serve as a Construction Manager. We seek an experienced individual to assist the Area Construction Engineer in leading, guiding, and directing the operations of the Bristol District Construction program.
Position-specific responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
Provide responsive management oversight and administration throughout all phases of roadway construction projects, maintenance projects, and transportation facilities, ensuring successful delivery of projects of moderate to considerable complexity on time, on budget, with high quality, and environmental compliance.
Responsible for project management, cost management, time management, quality management, contract administration, and safety/risk management.
Review and interpret plans, specifications, and contract documents during all phases of project development, including both design and construction.
Proactively resolve issues and avoid claims during construction.
Actively monitor scope, schedule, and budget, and prepare cost estimates as needed.
Analyze and process change orders, write project-related correspondence, and supervise inspection personnel.
Review project documentation and certify project records and material testing results.
Ensure environmental, safety, and quality compliance and oversee utility coordination throughout the construction process.
Provide project oversight, support, technical advice, and perform contractor performance evaluations. Identify and provide on-site technical training and mentoring for inspection staff as needed.
Ensure inspection tasks are adequately covered, and all project construction activities are accurately documented.
Maintain Construction Engineering Inspection (CEI) budget and staffing plans development.
Conduct construction progress meetings to resolve construction-related issues and partnering meetings to ensure both stakeholder coordination and citizen concerns are met.
Actively participate in constructability and biddability reviews during the design development phase.
Ensure pay quantities are reconciled with contractors and that all project communication and decision-making are in conformance with policies and procedures established by the Department and contract documents.
Minimum Qualifications
- Proven ability to manage construction activities on a wide variety of roadway, structure and
