At Uvalde Memorial Hospital, our Plant Operations team plays a critical role in keeping our environment safe, functional, and welcoming for everyone who walks through our doors. As a Mechanic I, you’ll support the repair and maintenance of our facility’s physical structure and essential systems, helping ensure that patients and staff are cared for in a secure and efficient environment. Whether you’re adjusting HVAC systems or handling electrical and plumbing repairs, your work truly matters — and your dedication keeps us running strong.
In This Role, You Will:
- Assist in maintaining and repairing HVAC controls and equipment to ensure climate comfort and energy efficiency throughout the hospital.
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on physical structures and systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and generator systems, with proper documentation.
- Replace, install, repair, and test electrical circuits, lighting systems, and related hospital equipment.
- Respond to assigned work orders and complete tasks accurately and promptly.
- Maintain clean and organized workspaces; return tools and equipment to storage after use.
- Stay current with compliance standards including NFPA, The Joint Commission (TJC), and CMS regulations.
- Support a safe, well-maintained environment by adhering to hospital safety protocols and infection control practices.
What We're Looking For:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in general maintenance or construction; hospital maintenance experience preferred.
- Effective communication skills in English (verbal and written); additional languages a plus.
- Strong multitasking and time management abilities.
- Advanced computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office and Outlook proficiency.
- Familiarity with standard maintenance and office equipment.
