Position Summary:
Responsible for assisting members with their consumer lending needs; analyzes loan requests and makes decision recommendations based on established credit union lending standards, procedures, and regulations. Prepares the loan file for underwriting by interviewing applicants, reviewing credit reports, application data and collateral, if applicable, and providing a recommendation to approve, counteroffer or deny loan requests. Regularly communicates by telephone, email or in-person with members, automobile dealers and others to expedite the loan application process. Responsible for meeting production and service level agreements outlined in monthly scorecards and reviewed during one-on-ones. Cross sells additional credit union and ancillary products to meet member needs. Maintains a positive attitude and conducts business in a professional manner while abiding by the credit union core values. Assures that all members, employees and visitors are treated with consideration and respect.
Essential Functions & Additional Responsibilities
- Interviews loan applicants to identify information concerning their loan needs, earnings, and financial condition. Assist applicants with application process when necessary.
- Reviews and analyzes credit report and application data to determine the degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money. Recommend loan decisions based on information present
- Reviews the terms and conditions of an approved loan with the member.
- Communicate effectively with members and business partners to ensure timely processing of application.
- Reviews application and supporting documentation for completeness and accuracy prior to submitting for signatures from applicant.
- Provides prefunding audit for completeness of peers’ loan files.
- Identifies referral and cross-sell opportunities for additional credit union products/services as well as ancillary products while delivering value proposition of financing with the credit union.
- Assist Mortgage department with applications, inbound calls, and miscellaneous admin functions as needed
- Keeps informed of current trends in consumer credit and regulations as well as updates to credit union lending guidelines, processes and procedures.
- Participate in department meetings, job-specific training as well as sales development activities.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Reports to:
Consumer Lending Sales Manager
Required Education and Experience:
- A high school diploma or G.E.D.
- One (1) or more years of lending experience in a financial institution required. Underwriting experience helpful.
- Minimum of one (1) year of sales and customer/member service experience
- Experience in residential mortgage lending
Additional Skills:
- Excellent sales and service skills with the ability to quickly gain rapport and build relationships with members.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook, Symitar, and Docusign.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual preferred.
- Must demonstrate a functional knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act in addition to other Federal laws, including but not limited to U.S. Patriot Act, Office of Foreign Assets & Control, Anti-Money Laundering, Right to Financial Privacy Act, and the Bank Bribery Act.
Work Environment:
Hybrid Environment – One day a week in-office

Sitting frequently, walking occasionally, use of hands frequently, hearing constantly, talking frequently, exerting up to 10lbs of force occasionally to life, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
