Schedule: 7am - 4pm Monday Friday, no weekend or holidays.
Purpose Statement/Position Summary:
The Perioperative Scheduling Coordinator serves as the operational and clinical liaison for all surgical scheduling activities within all anesthetizing locations for 24/7 operations. This position coordinates complex surgical cases requiring multidisciplinary collaboration between Surgeons, Anesthesiologists, Nursing Leadership, Perioperative Services, and Organizational Departments to ensure accurate and efficient case sequencing, room allocation, and resource readiness.
The Coordinator utilizes a comprehensive understanding of surgical case classifications, medical terminology, anesthesia requirements, and clinical equipment compatibility to build and maintain the daily surgical schedule. This role ensures the optimal utilization of operating room time, quality check for clinical and non-clinical needs of the patient before day of procedure, compliance with hospital policy and standards, and alignment with patient safety protocols and block management principles.
Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience:
Required: 2 years of scheduling experience in a medical environment. Demonstrated proficiency with electronic scheduling systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, or comparable). Proven ability to coordinate across multiple resources, time management, and handle high-acuity, fast-paced environments.
Preferred: Working knowledge of surgical specialties, medical terminology, and operating room resource needs. Experience with data validation, utilization analysis, or operational reporting in perioperative services. Knowledge of block scheduling, add-on protocols, and OR governance processes.
Education/Licensure/Certification:
Required: High school diploma or GED required
Preferred: Associates or Bachelors degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred.
