The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, the leading champion of empowerment and opportunity for individuals throughout the region in securing economic self-reliance, social equality, and civil rights, is seeking a highly motivated individual with a passion for helping others to work as an Energy Auditor & Quality Control Inspector.
This position will support our Weatherization Assistance Program which enables low-income families to permanently reduce their energy bills by making their homes more energy efficient.
The Energy Auditor & Quality Control Inspector is responsible for evaluating residential and/or commercial buildings to assess energy efficiency, identify improvement opportunities, and ensure work completed meets program, regulatory, and quality standards. This role combines field inspections, diagnostic testing, documentation review, and client or contractor communication to ensure high-quality energy efficiency outcomes.
Major responsibilities include:
- Conduct on-site energy audits of residential and/or commercial properties.
- Perform diagnostic testing, including blower door tests, duct leakage tests, combustion safety testing, and infrared thermography.
- Collect building data related to insulation, HVAC systems, lighting, appliances, and building envelope.
- Identify energy conservation measures (ECMs) and recommend cost-effective efficiency improvements.
- Prepare detailed audit reports, energy models, and savings calculations.
- Educate clients, homeowners, and stakeholders on findings and recommended upgrades.
- Conduct post-installation quality control (QC) inspections to verify work meets program guidelines, codes, and specifications.
- Inspect installed measures such as insulation, air sealing, HVAC upgrades, ventilation, and safety components.
- Verify contractor workmanship, material installation, and compliance with scope of work.
- Identify deficiencies and document corrective actions required.
- Perform follow-up inspections to confirm completion of required corrections.
- Maintain accurate inspection records and photographic documentation.
- Other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate must have:
- High school diploma or equivalent (associate or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred)
- Experience in energy auditing, building science, construction, HVAC, or home performance
- Strong understanding of building systems and energy efficiency principles
- Ability to perform fieldwork, including lifting equipment and working in attics, crawlspaces, and confined spaces
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites
- BPI Energy Auditor / Building Analyst, BPI Quality Control Inspector (QCI), RESNET HERS Rater, LEED, NATE, or equivalent certifications are desired.
