The Flood Safety District is seeking an Accountant to support the financial operations that help safeguard the region through levee and flood control management. This role will contribute essential accounting functions, such as accounts receivable, reconciliations, journal entries, and audit support. Position Information:
The Accountant Series is responsible for the maintenance of the general ledger and resulting managerial reports and financial statements.
The District is filling one (1) vacancy of a full-time, non-exempt position that will be placed at either the Entry or Journey level, depending on the successful candidate's experience.
Accountant, Entry
Grade: G; Salary Range: $79,856 - $111,815
Accountant, Journey
Grade: H; Salary Range: $87,920 - $123,101
Specifically this position will,
General Ledger Duties:
- Prepare and post Journal entries
- Track, reconcile and account for Fixed Assets
- Prepare and analyze Financial Statements
- Analyze Budget to actual results
- Support preparation for annual audit
- Process and post Accounts Receivable deposits
- Analyze A/R Aging report
- Process invoices
- Maintain cash balances in disbursement accounts
- Reconcile Bank accounts
- Review Payroll and complete General Ledger Posting
- Reconcile Retirement Accounts (ex. PERS, Oregon Savings Plan)
- Review Federal and State taxes reporting and reconcile payroll taxes (monthly, quarterly and annual)

Accountant, Entry
Required Education & Experience: High school diploma or GED and up to 3 years ’directly related experience.
Job Type: Non-exempt, full-time
Under close supervision, maintains timely and consistent A/R cash postings, process A/P invoices and payments to vendors. Work is routine in nature and instructions are generally provided. Business related communications outside of department occur. Provide support for annual audit.
Accountant, Journey
Required Education & Experience: High school diploma or GED and 3-5 years’ directly related experience
Job Type: Non-exempt, full time
Under minimal supervision, performs accounting activity associated with the maintenance of the General Ledger and financial reports. Responsible for A/R cash postings, analysis of A/R ageing reports, maintain A/P system. Business related communications outside of department are frequent and varied. Provide support for annual audit.
Working Environment
This position requires sitting at a computer, occasional lifting of boxes of documents. This position is not considered safety sensitive. This position is expected to work 5 days a week, fulltime and is eligible for a hybrid work schedule. Hours may vary but should generally fall between 7:30am and 5:30pm.Some travel may be required to attend conferences and events. Occasional weekend and evening shifts may be required.
This position may have business-related driving to various locations in support of departmental operations and assignments.
