About This Opportunity The University of Queensland is seeking a Security Officer to join the Security team within Property and Facilities at our Gatton Campus. This continuing, night-shift role has been established to strengthen overnight frontline security coverage and address identified lone worker risks during the University’s highest-risk operating period. Working as part of a small, dedicated team, you will deliver professional security services that protect people, property and operations, while upholding UQ’s Standards of Operation and Standards of Personal Conduct. Key responsibilities will include: Responding under supervision to alarms, medical incidents, fire emergencies and other security matters as they arise Conducting overnight patrols, lock-up procedures, and providing access for authorised personnel to University buildings and grounds Operating the Central Security Monitoring Station (CSMS) and responding to enquiries from staff, students and members of the public Preparing accurate, detailed incident reports and supporting preliminary investigations in line with University procedures This role is a permanent night shift position, supporting a 7-day roster to ensure continuous overnight coverage at Gatton Campus. This is a full-time, continuing position at HEW Level 3. Base salary will be in the range $68,939.72 – $75,882.43 17% super. About You You are a reliable and professional security practitioner who is confident working overnight, often independently, while remaining aligned with a broader operational team. You exercise sound judgement, remain calm under pressure, and take pride in delivering a respectful and effective service to the University community. It is vital that you possess: A current Queensland Certificate II in Security Operations, including Security Officer Unarmed and Monitoring modules A current St John, Red Cross or Queensland Ambulance First Aid Certificate A current Queensland Manual Open Driver’s Licence Well-developed knowledge of security methodologies and concepts as applied within complex environments Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and organise patrols, responses and reporting within strict deadlines Proven capability using security systems and software to document, analyse and report incidents The ability to exercise tact and restraint when faced with provocation or criticism Previous experience as a Security Officer within The University of Queensland or a similar large organisation is desirable.
