T he Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology in the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is looking to fill two 9-month Teaching Faculty I position s starting in Fall 202 6 . The person in this position performs independently under the general supervision of the Chair of the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology.
Major Responsibilities:
Teach four courses per semester during the Fall and Spring semesters of the academic year, performing all relevant tasks under the general supervision of the Criminal Justice and Criminology Department Chair . These classes may be a mix of in person and online, depending on department needs.
Supports the general curriculum by teaching required courses and special topics courses. The specific courses for each semester will be determined by the Chair of the Department.
Interact with students in the capacity of course instructor and facilitate professional preparation.
Work will be primarily performed on the UW-Milwaukee campus. After the initial training period, there may be the option to work partially remote, with supervisor approval.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Provides classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including grading
- Assists in developing techniques and/or model programs for carrying out instructional goals in disciplinary area and may help identify ways in which new techniques could be of assistance
- Assists in defining the objectives of the program and plays a major role in carrying out program duties
- Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy
- Supervises the day to day activities of work unit employees involved in instructional support as needed
- Assesses learner performance and prepares reports recommending instructional improvements

Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $55,000-$65,000 academic basis. The final offer will be contingent upon the knowledge, skills, and abilities demonstrated throughout the selection process.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in criminal justice, criminology, or related area from an accredited University. A JD degree may be acceptable with teaching experience.
- Ability to teach on a variety of criminal justice topics, such as introduction to criminal justice , criminological theory, introduction to criminal courts, introduction to corrections, and the undergraduate capstone, to meet department needs .
Applicants must also meet at least one of the following three criteria:
- Minimum of three years of experience teaching criminal justice, criminology or closely related college-level courses
- Minimum of three years of experience working in the criminal justice system or with populations relevant to the criminal justice system
- Holds a Ph.D. (or is ABD) in Criminal Justice, Criminology or a related field
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience teaching criminal justice courses, with evidence of college-level teaching effectiveness
- Prior experience or evidence of ability to teach online asynchronous courses
- Prior experience or evidence of ability to teach graduate-level courses
