Position Description

Primary Purpose And Essential Functions

Faculty in the Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) & Doctor of Health Sciences (DHSc) Program in the School of Health Sciences (SHS) will collaborate in fulfilling the University’s mission to provide a superior, student-centered learning experience integrating liberal arts and professional education and preparing individuals for lasting achievement and responsible leadership in their careers and communities. The Assist/Assoc/Full Professor will deliver content as needed within the program, with consideration of areas of expertise, and serve as the primary contact and liaison for educational technology and instructional design needs throughout the DMSc/DHSc program. This role will consult with Instructors of Record (IORs), faculty, and students to promote effective instructional strategies and improve learning outcomes in online learning environments that utilize technology.

Reports to the Program Director for the Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) and Doctor of Health Sciences (DHSc) program, School of Health Sciences (SHS). This is an eleven month, non­tenure track faculty appointment. Academic rank (Assistant, Associate or Full Clinical Professor) commensurate with experience.

Essential Functions

  • Curriculum content design and delivery for online courses in accordance with the policies of the University, including preparing lecture capture PowerPoints, videos, course content, and other media rich technologies for effective asynchronous instruction
  • Coordinate instructional design and educational technology for curriculum delivery
  • Assists the Program Director with the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of program policies and procedures
  • Develop and instruct course content and materials, in areas of expertise or curricular need, in alignment with program goals and learning outcomes using innovative teaching modalities for courses with major themes in Healthcare/Medical Education and Leadership
  • In collaboration with the Program Director, actively participates in program review and assessment ensuring curricular quality, teaching effectiveness, and outcomes
  • Assists with faculty recruitment and provides mentorship to new faculty members
  • Participate in applicant review and admissions interview processes
  • Create a student-centered learning environment
  • Engage regularly with students in online forums, discussion boards, and virtual meetings
  • Provide timely constructive feedback to learning activities
  • Monitor and advise students on academic progress
  • Mentor student-directed scholarly work, including doctoral projects
  • Develop a personal program of scholarly activities
  • Participate in service as requested or required
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean or Program Director

Minimum Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate or terminal degree in the field of specialization
  • Minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills
  • Demonstrated potential to work as a team with administrators, fellow faculty, staff, and students.
  • Demonstrated potential for sustained high-quality teaching in the field of academic responsibility
  • Demonstrated potential for sustained high-quality scholarly achievements in the field of academic appointment
  • Demonstrated potential for high-quality contributions to the University and professional service appropriate to the mission of the department and academic unit
  • Demonstrated experience translating educational content into online adult learning
  • Experience with online teaching at the doctoral level
  • Earned certificate in online learning and/or formal training on the Quality Matters (QM), Quality Learning and Teaching (QLT), or other rubrics for online teaching.
  • Published research in the field of specialization
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Requires extended periods of sitting and repetitive hand/wrist motion while using computer keyboard and phone. Occasional standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping and reaching. Occasional lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel

Work is primarily performed on-line in a remote location. Availability for students, faculty and staff during program hours is expected, regardless of time-zone where the work is performed.

Participation in school-wide meetings virtually and occasional events on-campus as needed. Work performed mostly during standard business hours. Some events on weekends/evenings are to be expected and will be scheduled with advance notice. Occasional travel to the three university campuses, as well as off-site locations to support recruitment and alumni events.

Hiring Range $50,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
