Department Public Relations Job Purpose
The Director of Web & Content Strategy plans, designs, and manages the University’s official website to ensure alignment with the University’s mission, strategic priorities, marketing goals, and brand standards. The role leads user experience, content strategy, and technical development; manages a team of web specialists; and collaborates with IT, Marketing, Enrollment Management, University Communications, and academic departments to deliver clear, compelling content for key audiences. The director oversees content development and editing, design and technical standards, web operations, and production processes to support a dynamic, brand‑consistent web presence that enhances storytelling, lead generation, and the University’s reputation. The position reports to the Senior Director of University Communications.

Essential Duties
- Strategic Leadership: Develops long- and short-range goals for the web platform. Monitors industry/university websites to identify innovations, best practices. Maintain strong working relationships with key partners throughout the University community.
- Content Management: Maintains strategic short- and long-term content review and implementation schedules for the website to ensure consistent delivery of up-to-date, engaging, dynamic, and user-friendly content and navigation, aligned with the University’s goals and priorities.
- Performance, UX, Analytics, SEO & GEO: Evaluates web performance against conversion and ROI metrics/goals and user experience evaluations, integrates site analytics to improve UX, monitor traffic, and optimize the site for search engines and AI.
- Project Management & Collaboration: Leads major web initiatives and serves as a liaison between the University’s web team and University departments and other constituents.
- Supervision: Manages the work of the Senior Web Content Strategist, Web Developer and Web Content Writer-Coordinators.
- Web Governance & Standards: Establishes and enforces coding, layout and branding standards for University websites, while working collaboratively with academic departments, admissions, advancement and other key partners to effectively achieve University objectives.
- Technical Oversight: Oversees CMS administration and collaborates with Information Technology on site hosting, security and integration issues.
- Incident Communications: Provides web communication support for crisis response.
- Accessibility & Compliance: Ensures the website meets Section 508, WCAG 2.1, and other state/federal regulations regarding web accessibility.
- Ability to be flexible with assignments and shifts in priorities.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and manage crises.
- Ability to meticulously oversee brand consistency and user interface.
- The ability to uphold human dignity and respect by recognizing each person’s worth, valuing diverse perspectives, and treating others with kindness, fairness, and empathy.
- Must be able to respect, support and contribute to the University’s Catholic and Jesuit mission.
- Bachelor’s degree in web design, marketing, communications, computer science or a related field.
- Master’s degree is preferred.
- Seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressive experience, including three (3) to five (5) years in a managerial role, preferably in higher education, nonprofit or complex mission-driven organization strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in the use of CMS platforms (e.g. Drupal), working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and web accessibility standards (ADA/WCAG) and a basic understanding of PHP/JavaScript.
- Advanced knowledge of web analytics platforms, conversion tracking, and reporting.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills as well as strong written and verbal communication skills, especially the ability to conceptual and write web copy that supports marketing goals.
- Experience with CRM integration and marketing automation.
- Knowledge of user experience and site optimization strategies and tools, including UX research methodologies, usability testing, card sorting, and user journey mapping, and SEO and GEO techniques and best practices.
- Ability to manage a variety of concurrent projects and production timelines, effectively setting priorities, achieving goals, and measuring results.
- Experience in a higher education setting preferred.
