The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Immunology, is seeking a full-time technician to support newly funded research programs. The Di Luccia Group investigates host-microbe- both commensal and pathogenic- interactions, focusing primarily on host mucosal immune responses. There are opportunities for independent projects within the mission of the laboratory, based on the applicant’s skills and goals, and after a period of guided supervision.
The applicant will support the function of the laboratory and assist the PI conducting experiments in cellular immunology and molecular microbiology. The applicant should have some experience with flow cytometry and basic immunological techniques. A significant task will include maintenance of the mouse colony, which includes breeding, PCR-based genotyping, and record keeping. The applicant should be very eager to learn new techniques and improve existing techniques.

Essential Functions
- Perform supervised laboratory work and experiments, including guided analysis and interpretation of primary cell culture experiments. These will involve cell isolation from organs, immunofluorescence staining, flow cytometry, cell sorting, cell culture, and other techniques. Write reports and summaries of findings with guidance from supervisor.
- Perform cloning and basic microbiological techniques.
- Oversees specimen inventories.
- Maintains lab and chemical inventories. Assists with ordering as needed.
