The Database Administrator I designs, develops, and maintains the database infrastructure, server systems, and research software platforms that support the experimental and computational workflows of a large quantum materials research group. The position is responsible for the full stack of research data infrastructure: PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB database systems, Linux server administration, high-availability clustering, web and native application development, and the security and automation layers that keep these systems operational. The work requires the theoretical and practical application of specialized knowledge in computer science, database systems, and systems administration, and is performed under the general direction of the faculty principal investigator.
Essential Functions
The physical effort required for lifting and mobility is generally low to sedentary, consisting as light office work. Occasional lifting items weighing less than 10 pounds such as laptops, monitors, or peripherals.

- Database administration and management including installing, configuring and upgrading database management systems.
- Planning and implementing security measures to safeguard information which includes setting permissions and auditing trails.
- Creating and testing, backup, and disaster recovery strategies
- Developing and maintaining documentation ofr policies, procedures, and configurations
- Working with research team to design and implement new features and address needs.
- Adhering to all safety protocols
- Complying with University policy and procedure to keep workplace free from recognized hazards
- Prolonged sitting or standing, extensive use of keyboard and mouse, and visual acuity for monitoring screens.
