Department Summary

The Educator Preparation Program at UNT is committed to preparing future teachers in progressively field-based learning environments. Teacher candidate preparation culminates with the supervised clinical teaching semester in EC-12 classrooms in area public schools.

The College of Education Clinical Practice Office supports this goal through partnerships with districts and school teachers and administrators to provide field-based preparation opportunities for both undergraduate and post baccalaureate students seeking initial teacher certification.

Position Overview

This position supports the supervision, success, and retention of teacher candidates during clinical and residency field experiences. This role ensures implementation of Program requirements, coordinates compliance-driven field activities, and supports state certification. The position conducts observations, leads required meetings and trainings, supports candidate development, and serves as a liaison between the university and school districts.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree or higher in a relevant education field; at least 3 years of successful EC-12 classroom teaching experience in Texas; and experience supervising teacher candidates. The candidate must currently hold, or be willing to renew, a valid Texas teaching certificate and Texas Principal certification.

  • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, statutes, regulations, codes, and standards related to the area of responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency, or the ability to quickly gain proficiency, in Microsoft Office, email, and learning management systems such as Canvas.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

The candidate must currently hold or be willing to renew a valid Texas teaching certificate and Texas Prinicpal certification.

Job Duties

  • Conduct required field supervision and evaluation of teacher candidates in clinical and residency placements, including informal and formal observations across fall and spring semesters, ensuring compliance with TAC and EPP requirements
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and targeted support to teacher candidates to promote professional growth, retention, and successful completion of certification requirements
  • Coordinate and lead required meetings and trainings, including host teacher orientations, triad/quad meetings, and governance meetings with district partners
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the university and school district partners, addressing field-based concerns, supporting host teachers, and ensuring clear communication and alignment of expectations
  • Collaborate with the Director of Clinical Experiences and program leadership through regular check-ins to monitor candidate progress and address performance or placement issues
  • Attend required educator preparation trainings and program meetings to maintain qualification, alignment with state standards, and consistency of supervision practices
  • Support candidate development activities, including test preparation sessions, clinical seminars, and campus-based programming as assigned
