The Dean of Students Office…
fosters the development of leadership, civility, accountability, and responsibility in our students; builds community through service and involvement; and
serves as an advocate for students who may need assistance in resolving complex personal and academic matters.
We strive to help all students achieve their academic and personal goals and enhance the UNT student experience.
Position Overview
The position reports to the Director, Intervention Services in the Dean of Students Office, within the Division of Student Affairs. This position coordinates the Universities process for responding to students and student behavior that is identified as a potential risk, either to themselves and/or to others or the community. This individual serves as an advocate for students who may need assistance in resolving complex personal and academic matters.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field and two years of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising, or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Excellent public speaking skills with experience in conducting training workshops. Ability to provide leadership and mentoring to student populations. Experience in networking across departments and programs. Strong organizational skills and ability to simultaneously execute multiple projects. Excellent verbal and written communication, and computer skills. Ability to support students through challenging life circumstances.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters degree in Counseling, Higher Education, Public Health or related field.
Required License/Registration/Certifications

Job Duties
- Meets with students, creates personalized support and resource plans, advocates and follows up with students, and reports to the CARE team as necessary
- Stays current with of state and local laws, university policy, and best practices as it relates to mental health, responding to student crises, FERPA, Clery, Title IX, etc.
- Completes special projects and serves on committees as assigned by the Dean of Students or DSA leadership.
- Completes all appropriate training as needed for the position.
- Serves as a Campus Security Authority for Clery and a Responsible Employee under Title IX.
- Maintains caseload records for the CARE team and consults appropriately regarding type and plan of student interventions.
- Assists leadership in updating and documenting processes in alignment with best practices, risk assessment, and case studies.
- Participates in the supervision of student employees, interns, or Graduate Assistants as needed.
- Collaborates and corresponds routinely with relevant campus stakeholders.
- Supports administrative functions of the DOS office as needed.
