This position will be within the lab of Prof. John LaCava, launching within the Dept. of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) at UNMC.
Role Description
This is a full-time on-site position for a Mass Spectrometry Specialist located in Omaha, NE. The specialist will operate, maintain, and troubleshoot liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry equipment as well as conduct method development and the analysis of complex biological samples. The instrument will be a Thermo Excedion Pro (hybrid Orbitrap). Responsibilities include data acquisition and interpretation, quality control, and training users on instrumentation. Collaboration with researchers and contribution to research projects are essential components of the role.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining hybrid Orbitrap mass spectrometers and related analytical equipment
- Experience with MS method development and optimization
- Expertise in data analysis, interpretation, and quality control for biological samples
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills for instrumentation and data-related issues
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with researchers and provide user training
- Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field; Ph.D. or equivalent experience preferred
- Familiarity with bioinformatics, proteomics, or metabolomics is a plus
- Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail
