Summary

The School of Public Health, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Leadership Team is hiring a Graduate Student Staff Assistant (GSSA) for the Academic Year 2024-2025. We are seeking a thoughtful and dynamic student with a commitment to contributing to a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment for all members of our community.

Course Description

Appointment Period: Fall 2024 and Winter 2025

Estimated FTE: 50% (20 hours per week)

Compensation: This appointment provides tuition, required fees, stipend (at the GEO negotiated GSSA monthly rate), GradCare health insurance and dental insurance (Option 1).

Location & Schedule: Hybrid Work Environment with flexible work schedule. One day a week in person at SPH I (1415 Washington Heights). Cubicle space for DEI student staff.

Responsibilities*

  • As a member of the DE&I Team, your primary responsibilities will focus on fostering student engagement and DEI-related student professional development within the School of Public Health.
    • This portfolio may include:
      • Research and fact-finding on student needs, capacities, and interests
      • Planning or developing learning and training opportunities for students
      • Developing marketing plans and materials for student-focused programming
      • Liaising with SPH Student Organization DEI Leaders & SPH Student Life
  • Attend bi-weekly 1:1 meetings with DEI Program Manager (DEI PM) and bi-weekly team meetings with DEI PM and DEI Program Assistant

Required Qualifications*

  • Experience with issues in student development, leadership development, and/or equity issues in higher education
  • Experience developing student engagement tools & programming
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, prioritization, and follow-through
  • Ability to work collaboratively or independently, as the task requires
  • Familiarity with the following software:
    • Online content creation tools (ex: Canva)
    • Microsoft and Google productivity tools including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation programs
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work and communicate effectively and professionally, in both written and verbal form, with the University community as well as external constituents

Desired Qualifications*

Preference will be given to doctoral students who have reached candidacy, as well as second year Master's students. The work described for this position must be considered academically relevant by the department or degree program in which the student is enrolled.
