Other Conditions: To begin August 2026, pending position clearance, availability of funds, and actual staffing requirements. Assignments may include evening and weekend hours, and travel to off-campus locations, such as local area high schools and correctional facilities (pending background clearance) or other satellite campuses.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Under general supervision, teach college-level courses in Economics and perform related work including, but not limited to, development of teaching strategies, instructional materials and methods which: 1) use current technology in instruction where appropriate; 2) integrate instruction of appropriate quantitative/logical thinking skills into course contents; 3) develop, update and assess the competencies and skills for course Student Learning Outcomes (SLO); 4) address the learning needs of community college students; and 5) develop and teach courses using a variety of delivery systems (e.g., face-to-face, online, hybrid/blended, and other distance delivery format, and Early College learning environments) as needed and appropriate.
  2. Develop curriculum for a wide range of Economics courses, including freshman and sophomore level courses. Align courses to meet student needs, workforce needs, and college objectives.
  3. Conduct course assessment and other evaluations of instruction based on SLOs, Course Evaluation Surveys, and Peer Evaluations, and adjust andragogy and curricula as appropriate to improve outcomes.
  4. Prepare, create, and revise SLOs and adjust andragogy and curricula as appropriate to meet SLOs.
  5. Related work activities include, but are not limited to: Advising students; responding to student inquiries in a timely manner; assisting in program, division, and campus-related assessment and student activities.
  6. Maintain a minimum of one office hour per week for each course taught.
  7. Actively participate in faculty and administrative committees; and program, division, college, and community/public service.
  8. Develop and maintain professional self-improvement plans.
  9. Collect data and prepare reports.
  10. Independently plan, organize, and carry out instructional and non-instructional assignments.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters in Economics from a regionally or nationally accredited postsecondary college or university.

Desirable Qualifications

  1. Ph.D. in Economics.
  2. Experience teaching Economics at the community college level.
  3. Experience designing accessible and engaging learning environments in face-to-face and/or online classes at the post-secondary level.
  4. Experience with course and/or program assessment.
  5. Experience in course and curriculum development.
  6. Experience in program development.
  1. Understanding of and experience working with a diverse student population, including students with disabilities and students from a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds.  
  2. Ability to incorporate local, regional, and global economic issues into instruction, including issues relevant to Hawaii and Pacific Island communities.
