Other Conditions: General funds to begin approximately Fall 2026, contingent on operational and program needs, actual staffing requirements, and availability of funds. Positions may be changed from 9-month to 11-month or 11-month to 9-month as operational needs are required.


Duties and Responsibilities 

  1. Under the general supervision of the Dean of Arts & Sciences, responsible for the daily operations of the Hawaiian Center, Hulili Ke Kukui, and the overall coordination of culture and place-based services, activities, and events.
  2. Oversee Center faculty, staff, and students.
  3. Promote the Center as a welcoming place of learning through the integration of language, culture, and values.
  4. Promote a campus climate supportive of all students by serving as a resource for culture and place-based learning for faculty and staff.
  5. Collaborate with Academic Support, Student Services, and other educational services to prepare students to enter the workforce and/or transfer, including but not limited to admissions, financial aid, academic advising, new student orientation, career/vocational guidance, co-curricular, and other educational services promoting student persistence and success in college.
  6. In conjunction with the Dean of Arts & Sciences, research and identify relevant grant opportunities as related to the Center. Prepare grant applications. Collaborate with Center faculty and staff on development and submission of grants, project narratives and reports. Manage the Center budget and maintain records of grant-related correspondence and documentation.
  7. Conduct assessment and evaluation of performance measures and outcomes.
  8. Prepare reports as required by the College or external agencies. Monitor budgets, student records, and personnel management.
  9. Complete and perform other related work as assigned.
  10. Must be available for evening/weekend work.
  11. Perform other related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance or a related field; or
  2. Master’s degree in Hawaiian Studies or Hawaiian Language and three (3) years of related work experience; or
  3. Master’s degree with at least 15 credits of advanced and/or graduate level coursework or research topic focused on Native Hawaiian areas and three (3) years of related work experience; or
  4. Bachelor’s degree in Counseling and Guidance or a related field and three (3) years of related work experience; or
  5. Bachelor’s degree in Hawaiian Studies or Hawaiian Language and five (5) years of related work experience.
  6. Other related fields include College Student Personnel Services, Human Resources (to include both CTAHR and Personnel), Communications, Education (to include all degrees in this field), Family Resources, Human Development, Psychology (to include all degrees in this field), Public Health, Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Sociology, Student Services Personnel
  7. If no qualified applicants are available, those not meeting minimum qualifications may be considered for an acting appointment.


Desirable Qualifications 

  1. Professional work experience leading subordinates, supervising work priorities and projects, and managing employee relations.
  2. Knowledge of Hawaiian language, culture, practices, protocols, and values.
  3. Knowledge of educational support programs, issues, and activities.
  4. Experience in effective working relationships with Hawaiian communities.
  5. Demonstrated skill in managing team building.
  6. Demonstrated ability in adapting to change, handling varies assignments, and working well in a collaborative environment.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills.
  8. Demonstrated ability to establish rapport with students, staff, faculty, and community groups.
  9. Knowledge and experience with financial aid programs, policies, and application procedures, including the ability to work effectively with students and address influences that impact students’ access to and success in higher education.
  10. Demonstrated ability to provide recruitment, admissions, financial aid assistance, new student orientation, academic advising, career/vocational guidance, co-curricular services, and other educational services promoting student persistence and success in college. 
  11. Demonstrated planning, organizational, and management skills.
  12. Experience in organizational leadership, including fiscal, budget management, program administration, staff supervision, and federal grant administration in educational institutions.
  13. Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
  14. Knowledge of community college philosophy, mission, and purpose.
  15. Knowledge and experience with community college transfer and career and technical education programs.
  16. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  17. Strong computer skills, including the use of email, word processing, database and spreadsheet, and multimedia presentation skills and software.
  18. Evidence of creativity, resourcefulness, and initiative.
