Graduate Research Assistant (American History and Civics Education National Activities – Seminars)
The Graduate Assistant will provide research, technical, and administrative support for the Civic Futures project, a three-year initiative to strengthen civics education in Hawai‘i. The primary focus during the initial 11-month term will be supporting the development and production of the 12-part "Constitutional Conversations Series," including managing the coordination of the recording and completion of interviews with local constitutional experts.
Other conditions:
Extramural funds. Appointment to begin Summer 2026. The initial appointment is scheduled to run through Spring 2027. Continuation is contingent upon project needs, satisfactory work performance, academic progress, and availability of funds.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical Production Support: Assist in the logistics, preparation, and on-site support for recording interviews with key constitutional experts, covering the initial phase through the completion of interviews.
Script and Content Development: Support Civic Fellows and Instructional Designers by assisting with the research, script review, and preparation of thematic content for the "Constitutional Conversations Series" video modules.
Digital Platform & Tool Support: Assist in the development and refinement of the project's digital tools, including initial work on the Founding Fathers AI Chatbot and modular lessons.
Administrative & Research Assistance: Provide general support to the Principal Investigator and Project Director, including tracking project tasks, conducting literature reviews, and managing documents related to project activities.
Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Classified, full-time (minimum 6 credits) graduate student in good academic standing (GPA of 3.0 or above) at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. Certificate and non-degree students are not eligible.
Demonstrated organizational and time-management skills to meet project timelines and milestones.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in standard office software and research tools.
Desirable Qualifications:
Prior experience or coursework in a field relevant to the project, such as Political Science, Constitutional Law, History, Education, or Communications/Media.
Experience with audio-visual recording, editing, or technical production of educational content.
Familiarity with curriculum design, Open Educational Resources (OER), or digital learning platforms. Experience or interest in the application of AI or chatbot technologies in an educational context.
