Student-Athlete Academic Services at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa invites applications for a Graduate Assistant position. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute to student-athlete success through direct academic support, program development, and collaboration with a dedicated team of academic advisors and learning specialists. We are seeking a motivated, student-centered graduate student committed to academic excellence and the holistic development of student-athletes.
Duties and Responsibilities- Student Support: Support academic advisors and/or learning specialists in providing academic assistance individually or in small group settings for academically at-risk, under-prepared, or otherwise requiring elevated levels of support.
- Program Support: Support the planning and implementation of academic support programming, including summer bridge, study hall operations, academic engagement initiatives, and student success programming.
- Tutor & Mentor Development: Support tutor and mentor program initiatives, including training and resource development as needed.
- Collaboration & Professionalism: Maintain professional, collaborative, and student-centered working relationships with staff and student-athletes.
- Other Responsibilities: Perform administrative, programmatic, and other related duties as assigned. Work schedules may occasionally extend beyond standard business hours in support of center operations, study hall programming, and departmental initiatives. Summer availability is required to support summer bridge programming and related departmental initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications- Classified University of Hawai'i at Manoa graduate student
- One year of experience tutoring or providing academic support services
- Strong oral communication, writing, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience working with diverse student populations
- Dependable, organized, and efficient
Desirable Qualifications- Experience working with student-athletes in an athletic-academic setting
- One year of formal classroom or instructional teaching experience
- Experience working with students with learning disabilities
