This position is responsible for providing engineering solutions to a wide range of customer challenges utilizing a variety of advanced manufacturing methods to include additive manufacturing. At a high level, tasks include reverse engineering, CAD design, 2D drawing with focus on application of GD&T, systems engineering, FEA analysis and simulation for selected components/systems. As well, this engineer will be responsible for following all product development process steps and ensure compliance to ISO and AS standards. This role will communicate and collaborate with customers as well as a multi-disciplinary team of manufacturing, operations, testing, quality, materials, and program management members through project completion. Other efforts include but are not limited to mentoring junior engineers, assisting in process improvement efforts, participate in various technical challenges and team support activities. Occasional travel is expected for this role. This role will be working in a highly agile environment in a multifunctional team and therefore, being a team player and having flexibility, adaptability, attention to detail are key to success.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS degree in mechanical, aerospace engineering or related field
  • 8 years of experience in product development
  • 5 years of experience with Computer Aided Design software, preferably SolidWorks
  • 5 years of practical experience in 2D drawing generation, including application of GD&T
  • Practical experience reverse-engineering products/projects
  • Familiarity with various manufacturing processes such as casting, forging, extrusion, CNC machining, injection molding, thermoforming, robotics, advanced manufacturing, etc.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to perform extensive research, catalogue findings during development activities, and write reports for both internal and external use
  • Effective interpersonal communication and presentation skills with coworkers and clients at all levels
  • Self-motivation with ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Successful collaboration within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Excellent communication skills to include presentation skills
  • Experience generating job routers and BOM's for part manufacture
  • Due to requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. Citizen

R3 requires below criteria in addition to requirements listed above:

  • 15 years of experience in product development
  • 10 years of experience with Computer Aided Design software, preferably SolidWorks
  • 10 years of practical experience in 2D drawing generation, including application of GD&T

Preferred Qualifications

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

  • 5 years of experience performing FEA analysis using ANSYS to include static and dynamic analysis
  • Experience with Additive Manufacturing, including print file generation
  • Experience with failure analysis, root cause determination and corrective action
  • Experience with Model Based Definition generation (SolidWorks preferred)
  • MS Degree in mechanical, aerospace engineering or related field
  • Hands on experience conducting reverse engineering
  • Experience in ISO certified and/or AS9100 certified facility
  • Experience writing or providing cost estimates supporting ROM's and proposals
  • Ability to promote inclusive excellence in the workplace
