Assistant/Associate Professor - Clinician Educator, Geriatric Medicine
(90% Clinical / 10% Education)
The Division of Geriatric Medicine at UConn Health is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible physician in Geriatric Medicine for a full-time Clinician Educator faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team dedicated to providing comprehensive, patient-centered care to older adults across ambulatory and consultative settings while contributing to the education and mentorship of medical students and trainees.
This position is primarily clinical in nature (90%) with a focused educational component (10%). The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in geriatric patient care, medical education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and academic medicine.
Position Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities (90%)
Provide comprehensive outpatient geriatric primary care services to older adult patients with complex medical, cognitive, and functional needs.
Serve as a geriatric medicine consultant for medically complex patients requiring specialized evaluation and management.
Diagnose and manage geriatric syndromes including dementia, delirium, falls, frailty, polypharmacy, mobility disorders, osteoporosis, incontinence, and end-of-life care needs.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including nursing, pharmacy, social work, rehabilitation services, and case management to optimize patient outcomes.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical program development, and population health efforts focused on aging adults.
Maintain timely and accurate documentation in accordance with institutional, regulatory, and payer requirements.
Participate in departmental meetings, faculty activities, and institutional service as appropriate.
Educational Responsibilities (10%)
Precept medical students participating in the Geriatrics Clerkship and longitudinal clinical learning experiences (CLIC).
Provide bedside and ambulatory teaching to learners in clinical settings.
Participate in curriculum development, learner assessment, and mentorship activities within the Division of Geriatric Medicine.
Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment consistent with the academic mission of the institution.
Minimum Qualifications
MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
Completion of an accredited residency program in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
Completion of an accredited fellowship in Geriatric Medicine.
Board certified or board eligible in Geriatric Medicine.
Eligible for or able to obtain an unrestricted Connecticut medical license and DEA registration.
Demonstrated commitment to high-quality, patient-centered geriatric care.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills.
Interest in medical student education and academic medicine.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience teaching medical students, residents, or other healthcare trainees.
Experience in outpatient geriatrics, consultative geriatrics, or interdisciplinary care models.
Academic interests in quality improvement, clinical research, population health, or curriculum development.
Experience working within an academic medical center or integrated healthcare system.
Faculty Appointment
Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Faculty appointments are subject to review and approval in accordance with institutional policies and procedures.
