Under the supervision of the PI and evaluates and manages clinical care of participants in the Glycogen Storage Disease (GSD) clinical trials. Follows study specific protocol guidelines, communicates and interacts with investigators hospital staff, and others to effectively perform clinical research activities at the UConn Health. May act as a resource to other professional staff members.

SCHEDULE: Temporary Per Diem position approximately 20-30 hours per month, 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., based on clinical trial needs. 30 minute unpaid meal break.

JOB DUTIES:

• STUDY DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT

• Communicate with Study Coordinators, department leadership and other sponsors to assist in the coordination of study specific activities at UConn Health.

• STUDY COORDINATION AND MANAGEMENT:

• Work effectively with Principal Investigator, and or designee, in the implementation of assigned clinical research tasks to ensure optimal efficiency.

• With supervision, organize and implement study specific activities and efficient manner.

• Ensures compliance with UCHC policies and state/federal regulations for patient safety

• Works with Study Coordinators to respond to sponsor queries as needed.

• Assists with explanation of research projects to potential research subjects and their families.

• Assists with determining eligibility of subjects for assigned studies according to protocol.

• Assists with the collection and compiles clinical data in accordance with institutional clinical standards and research protocols.

• Documentation of the study visits in the electronic medical record (EPIC)

• CLINICAL STUDY COORDINATION:

• With supervision, evaluate and document the individual subject's response to therapeutic regimens according to study protocol and institutional clinical standards of care.

• Procures research specimens, as needed.

• Serve as resource person for physicians, nurses, family members and subjects

• TRAINING AND EDUCATION OF RESEARCH STAFF :

• Attend appropriate training, meetings and orientations required for assigned research projects.

• Attend meeting related to GSD Clinical Trials, clinical meetings and educational meetings.

• Completes yearly training assigned by UCHC.

• Maintain professional expertise through involvement in professional organizations and continuing education programs.

• Demonstrates knowledge of age-related differences and needs of patients in appropriate, specific populations with Glycogen Storage Disease (GSD) and applies practice.

• Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with subjects/families.

• Values Cultural diversity and other individual differences in the workforce.

• Performs other related responsibility

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• KNOWLEDGE OF:

• Medical Equipment as it relates to patient care.

• Must demonstrate clinical competence in the area of GSD, within which study occurs, including phlebotomy and IV insertion skills.

• SKILLS:

• Demonstrate computer proficiency in Windows environment

• Use of electronic Medical System (EPIC)

• ABILITY TO:

• Work productively with individuals, groups and other organization within the medical and research community.

• Plan and execute work; to seek out and use supervision and consultation.

• Work with supervision and take responsibility for decision-making in area of expertise.

• Communicate effectively with individuals and groups, both orally and in writing.

• Perform infusions, blood draws, or other delegated clinical interventions as dictates by the protocol or delegated from the PI.

• Ability to be flexible with scheduled hours as applicable to research protocol needs.

• Attend to detail, problem solve, be organized, and work in a fast-pace environment.

MINNUM REQUIREMENTS :

• Must possess a degree or diploma from an accredited program for Registered Nurses.

• 1 year Registered Nurse experience

• Current State of Connecticut Registered Nurse License

• Successful completion of Human Subjects Protection Training through National Institute of Health (NIH) or USCH required within one month employment.

• Current BLS & PAS certification.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE :

• Experience with Glycogen Storage Disease or Rare Diseases

• Experience with Clinical Trials/FDA Regulations

• Emergency, ICU or Oncology experience

HOURLY RATE: $66.96 (THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION WITH NO BENEFITS.)

DURATION : 12 months
