Medical Director Blood Bank
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Connecticut is seeking a medical director of Blood Bank/Transfusion Medicine. This is an Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure medical educator track. Candidates must be board certified or eligible in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine through the American Board of Pathology. With our expanding bone marrow transplantation program, training and interest in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy is highly desired.
The laboratory offers full-service diagnostic testing in transfusion medicine and performs over 8,000 transfusions per year. The blood bank is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and regulated and licensed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The successful candidate will provide leadership and guidance of the blood bank. The laboratory director will be available for consultation, interpretation of results, and clinical guidance. Clinical responsibilities include coverage for the Blood Bank as well as occasionally for Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology, and/or Hematology/Coagulation clinical labs. The medical director is actively engaged in the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows at UCONN Health. Research collaborations with other departments and clinical services is strongly encouraged.
The applicant must qualify for a faculty appointment at the School of Medicine of the University of Connecticut. The candidate must either hold or to be eligible for a current license to practice medicine in the State of Connecticut. The position is for a start date of July 2026 or whenever the position is filled.
