The Paredes Lab The Paredes Lab - Neurodevelopment and Disease at the Mission Bay campus at UCSF is looking to appoint a Junior Specialist to conduct research related the cellular and molecular basis of perinatal human brain development with the overarching goal of understanding the cellular and anatomical architecture that underlie the unique functions of the human brain.
Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions and may participate in University and Public Service.
The Junior Specialist will be actively involved in specialized research activities through the following roles and duties:

The Junior Specialist will be actively involved in specialized research activities through the following roles and duties:
- Actively contribute to publishable research through data collection and protocol optimization alongside experienced scientists, which will include collection and processing of human, piglet, and mouse brain samples.
- Collection and processing of immunohistochemistry on human, piglet and mouse tissue samples, confocal microcopy to image processed samples, and stereological analysis of relevant samples.
- Assist in qualitative studies operations like participant recruitment, collect and process samples and updating data.
- Immunostaining: testing of antibodies on our samples and subsequent running of experiments.
- Data analysis-quantification and image processing
- Collect brain samples and keep inventory for our lab brain bank.
Training will be provided.
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree (or equivalent degree) in a related science and knowledge of, or experience with the basic techniques or methods required by the position or at least four years of research experience.
- Familiar with immunohistochemistry and cyrosectioning
- Ability to use Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of medical and scientific terminology
- Communication and Organizational skills
- Detail oriented; works with a high level of accuracy
- Candidates must meet the required qualifications at the time of appointment.
- Candidate’s CV must state qualifications or if pending upon submission.
