The role
The University Of Bristol’s Department Of Philosophy Are Recruiting a Lecturer In Philosophy, With Specialisation In At Least One Of The Following Areas And Teaching Competency In At Least Three Of The Following Areas
What will you be doing?
The appointee will be expected to contribute to the delivery of the Department of Philosophy’s undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum, and to engage in teaching-related administration and curriculum development. This will include delivering lectures and seminars at undergraduate and MA level; marking essays, exams, and other forms of assessment; supervising and marking undergraduate dissertations and MA independent-study essays; undertaking any necessary teaching-related administration; providing pastoral support to students; and participating fully in the daily life of the department.
You should apply if
You have a PhD in Philosophy (or are due to complete your viva before August 2026);
You have some experience of teaching undergraduate students;
You specialise in at least one of and have teaching competency in at least three of: Aesthetics, Ethics, Philosophy of AI, Philosophy of Education, Political Philosophy, or Value Theory;
You’re able to teach undergraduate students in your areas of specialisation and competency on all levels;
You’re able to supervise final-year essays on a broad range of philosophical topics;
You’re able to act as a personal tutor and to support students in their learning.

Fixed term for 24 months (01/09/2026 – 31/08/2028)
Work pattern: 1 FTE
Grade: J
Salary: £43,482- £46,049 per annum
School/Unit: School of Arts
Shift pattern: Monday - Friday
