Job Description
The University of Alabama Birmingham, Heersink School of Medicine, Department of Surgery is currently recruiting faculty candidates to be considered for a tenure track or non-tenure track faculty appointment in the Division of Surgical Oncology. This individual will serve as Section Chief of Skin and Soft Tissue Diseases. The Division of Surgical Oncology is committed to providing personalized, comprehensive care for patients with a broad array of benign and malignant tumors. We work in collaboration with members from other divisions in the Department of Surgery, along with the Department of Radiation Oncology, Division of Hematology/Oncology, the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the Department of Genetics and the Department of Dermatology to provide high-quality, innovative, and comprehensive multidisciplinary cancer care.

Interested candidates should contribute to the tripartite mission of the institution including clinical, research and education needs of the division. The Section Chief would report to the Division Director of Surgical Oncology and the Department Chair. This person would oversee a dynamic group of surgeons with similar clinical interests. Additional leadership opportunities exist for qualified individuals within the Department, Medical School and Cancer Service Line.
The Department of Surgery is comprised of over 150 faculty and over 400 fellows, residents and staff, and has 9 divisions including Surgical Oncology. The clinical programs in the department are world leaders in their field and are housed at the University Hospital which is the 3rd largest public hospital in the US. The Department has over 13 million dollars in research funding annually, including 3 NIH training grants: an NIH/NCI T32 Surgical Oncology grant, an NIH/NIDDK T35 grant, and an NIH-NCI R25 oncology grant. The education program consists of 5 residencies and 11 fellowships.
The University of Alabama at Birmingham, one of three autonomous institutions within The University of Alabama System, is the only four-year, public university in the state’s largest metropolitan area. Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will hold an M.D., M.D./Ph.D., or Ph.D. and will be an outstanding leader and highly skilled, widely recognized in the field with a strong track record. Candidate should have substantial professional work experience in one or more areas of research, teaching and/or service.
