Course Materials Outreach Manager

University Book Store’s Course Materials Outreach Manager is a full-time, hourly position reporting to the Chief of Campus Operations.

In this role, you’ll help make course materials more affordable and accessible for thousands of UW students while building relationships across campus and honing your skills in project coordination, data analysis, vendor management, and higher education operations. You’ll receive training in our course materials programs (Day One Access, Student Choice, Inclusive Access, textbook rentals, etc.) and the benefits each bring, vendor relationships, UW processes and retail operations. Position Summary

The Course Materials Outreach Manager serves as University Book Store’s primary liaison to University of Washington’s faculty, academic departments, student organizations and campus partners to expand affordable and accessible course materials programs. This role combines relationship management, program development, data-driven buying, and vendor management to support student success while advancing the Book Store’s strategic initiatives. This is an onsite position based out of our flagship store on the Ave., with occasional travel to branch campuses required.

Responsibilities

  • Marketing & Outreach: Build and maintain strong relationships with UW faculty, student organizations, administrators, academic departments and campus committees to promote affordable course materials programs and services.
  • Program Development:
    • Enhance course materials programs by expanding and exploring innovative content delivery initiatives, evaluating alternative sourcing strategies, and identifying opportunities to reduce costs while improving the student experience.
    • Drive adoption and expansion of Day One Access and other academic materials initiatives, while adopting new technologies and improving processes.
  • Vendor Relations: Develop and manage publisher and vendor relationships, negotiating pricing, co-op funding, shipping terms, and other agreements to maximize value, improve margins and support program goals.
  • Financial Goals: Meet financial and stakeholder objectives by achieving revenue targets, strengthening vendor partnerships, and delivering exceptional service to faculty and students.
  • Buying Responsibilities:
  • Research publishers, wholesalers, and online marketplaces to identify the most cost –effective course materials options.
    • Analyze sales history, inventory levels, market trends, and pricing data to make informed buying decisions.
    • Order and manage inventory to maintain appropriate stock levels and maximize sell-through.
  • Sales floor Support: Assist students in identifying and obtaining required and recommended course materials through a variety of delivery options.
  • Support other departments throughout the store as needed.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience presenting to faculty, academic leaders, or other senior stakeholders, with the ability to advocate for affordable and accessible course materials.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience using business systems, data analysis, and reporting tools to support decision-making.
  • Proficient in PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams and comfortable using AI tools.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment while consistently meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to provide high standard of customer service to diverse stakeholders, including faculty, students, vendors.
  • Dependable, organized, and committed to following through on responsibilities.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in higher education or with course materials programs such as Day One Access, Inclusive Access, digital content delivery, or textbook rental programs.
  • Experience in textbook or retail buying a plus.

Wage and Benefits

The hourly wage for this position is $32.50/ hour. Benefits include: subsidized monthly ORCA pass, holiday pay, 401k retirement plan, and generous merchandise discount. Additional benefits once hours requirements are met include: medical Healthcare Reimbursement Account, dental and long-term disability insurance, vacation and sick pay, and 401k employer match.
