The Laboratory Safety Inspector performs a wide variety of duties for UB Environment Health and Safety (EH&S).

- Conduct on-site inspections of UB laboratories. Labs may be designated as research, teaching, or both. Work as part of a 2- or 3-person inspection team.
- Prepare detailed written/electronic lab inspection reports using data obtained from the live inspections. Distribute reports to relevant responsible parties.
- Schedule follow up inspections as necessary to address deficiencies noted in previous inspection reports.
- Interprets and applies Federal and State rules, regulations, and guidelines as they apply to campus labs.
- Verify proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is being utilized during lab work where hazardous material are in use.
- As part of the inspection process, verify training records of lab worker are valid and up to date.
- Work as a member of a team to perform lab incident and accident investigations and conduct root cause analysis. Generate detailed reports and make recommendations to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. Stay knowledgeable of all applicable regulations as they pertain to this position.
- Participates as a member of UB EH&S emergency Haz-Mat response team.
- Serves as a back up to the Hazardous Material Technician as needed.
