What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Outreach Coordinator, Department of AI and Society position at University at Buffalo?
Build, maintain, and sustain relationships with communities and organizations (e.g. nonprofit, grassroots, advocacy, or other civil society organizations) in Buffalo, Western New York, and NY state. This includes, but is not limited to, attending relevant community-based events around WNY/NYS that support the larger mission and vision of AIS’ primary community relationships. These events might include community meetings and other kinds of local events. In this capacity, the Community Outreach Associate will serve as a visible and trusted representative of AIS/UB.
Help AIS faculty members with the planning and logistics of research relevant community engagement work by organizing events that bridge AIS/UB/broader WNY community. This includes, but is not limited to: creating and distributing promotional materials for events in accessible formats for a diverse set of audiences; developing and implementing outreach events for partnership building and recruitment; maintaining partner contact lists/databases; coordinating venue selection, child care, food and accessibility accommodations, as relevant; establishing MOUs and other formal partnership agreements; developing and collecting program evaluation data from community partners for partnership improvement; preparing year end community engagement reports for AIS, its community partners and the broader UB community.
Facilitate the logistics of coordinating student projects (as part of the AIS capstone and other AIS courses) with community organizations. This includes, but is not limited to, building reciprocal trust with organizations by discussing explicitly mutual needs, constraints, and expectations; ensuring projects are appropriate and approved for students AND community partners; assist faculty with aligning projects to curricular expectations by supporting the integration of learning objectives, assessment tools, and timeline management.
Producing and distributing marketing materials for AIS program offerings, events, and information; organizing outreach campaigns for student recruitment and retention.
Supporting coordination and management of new and existing programs and initiatives focused on supporting students within the department of AIS.
Develop and build relationships with stakeholders across campus and in the community to collaboratively support a positive experience for students within the artificial intelligence and society program
