Superintendent, Water Treatment Plant

Position Summary:   Responsible to operate water plant in compliance with EPA and Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) standards. install, maintain, repair and preventative maintenance for residential and commercial utility distribution systems while communicating with the Supervisor/Manager of repair needs and priorities. Provide backup for the maintenance department as assigned.

Essential Job Functions: 

  1. Operate water plant in compliance with EPA & DNR standards.
  2. Maintain records of all water testing samples for residents, water plant and samples sent to the state labs.
  3. Maintain records of all DNR inspections to water plant.
  4. Provide DNR all frees, permits, and reports as required.
  5. Oversee all water plant secondary personal licensing and training are current according to DNR requirements.
  6. Maintain both reservoirs and dams for repairs, vegetation control, lake patrols, and algae treatment.
  7. Coordinate Dam inspections with DNR.
  8. Maintain all equipment, pumps, motors, feed lines, electrical and mechanical associated with water plant.
  9. Order all treatment chemicals and calibrate equipment to maintain potable and safe drinking water.
  10. Maintain cleaning and inspections of clear well, contact basin and water tank per DNR requirements.
  11. Maintain daily water plant and monthly NOAA logbook.
  12. Download the weather station SD card and mail monthly to NOAA.
  13. Water plant to be kept clean and available for inspection inside and out per DNR requirements.
  14. 24/7 availability regarding water plant operations.
  15. Routine inspections of water plant roofs, gutters, windows, mortar, block and caulk, etc. and report problems to the supervisor/manager.
  16. Adhere to all company policies and procedures including safety and compliance guidelines/regulations regarding the handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
  17. Perform regular and routine maintenance on campus water distribution systems.
  18. Oversee all overhead electrical power lines on property.  Report downed power lines, blown cutouts, loose cross tees, and maintain tree lines from power grid.
  19. Maintain and repair all parking lot lights, and streetlights throughout Village.
  20. Operate Unity’s bucket truck as required.
  21. Evaluate, schedule, respond and over-see assigned various work orders to include but no limited to plumbing and Utilities and distribution systems, carpentry, electrical, painting and recognize and report hazardous conditions requiring immediate action in a timely and effective manner.
  22. Regular and reliable attendance at the worksite and adhere to assigned schedule. – this position is not a remote or telecommute position.
  23. Adhere to all company and departmental policies and procedures per the guidebook including all safety requirements including all safety guidelines.
  24. Utilize electronic time management system to input time, attendance and paid off request.

Non-Essential Job Functions:

  1. Provide backup assistance as needed for the completion of work orders and demands on department staff.
  2. Demonstrate customer service attitude with each department interaction and work order requests.    
  3. Available to meet after hours/weekends and on-call rotation responsibilities to meet the demands of Maintenance department.
  4. Ownership of Preventive Maintenance program associated within assigned area.
  5. Strong knowledge of BAS/EMS (building automation systems/Energy Management systems) preferred.
  6. Provide backup for the maintenance department as assigned.
  7. Snow Removal, as required
Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Education or equal.

License:  

  • B class water treatment license required. A class water treatment license preferred.
  • DS2 distribution license required.
  • Valid Drivers’ license required.

Competency:

  • Able to apply specified knowledge, skills, and experience to accomplish department and individual goals.
  • Able to provide high quality service while consistently seeking ways to improve outcome and enhance customer service.
  • Able to demonstrate commitment to the Unity core values.   

Experience:    

  1. 2 ½ years of water treatment experience.
  2. Repair/replacement of pumps/motors.
  3. Effective communication skills to effectively interact with all levels within the organization.
  4. Operating effectively after hours and on weekends/holidays, including on-call responsibilities.
  5. Working with minimal supervision and demonstrate self-motivation.

Computer Skills:  

Minimum intermediate end user of MS Office:  MS Word, MS Outlook, Excel.  Proficient with inventory management system.
