CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY
The Law Enforcement Information System Coordinator, under general supervision, is responsible for development, implementation, and management of an information management program for the Union County Sheriff’s Office. The incumbent researches and evaluates procedural and technical solutions that can be applied on the Sheriff’s Office networks, manages and deploys agency computer equipment, and maintains configuration control of devices and software applied to the centralized network and systems supporting the County. Employee must have excellent oral and written communication and customer service skills; exercise initiative and independent judgment in completing assigned tasks; exercise discretion when dealing with confidential information; exercise tact, courtesy, and firmness in frequent contact with the public.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
·Responsible for the maintenance, security administration, training, and documentation of all Sheriff’s Office information systems hardware, software, and applications.
·Verifies fiber and wireless connections to off-site locations are working properly.
·Terminate and test cables, trouble shoot fiber connection issues.
·Configures devices and wireless access points at off-site locations to allow officers the ability to upload in car video.
·Maintains and configures wireless access points for internal wireless network.
·Maintains and configures wireless access points for Jail rounds application.
·Responsible for maintaining the connection to over 100 IP based cams, along with the configuration of the switches, for all locations related to the Sheriff’s Office.
·Maintains and configures undercover cams and connectivity to the server, along with creating user accounts and passwords.
·Works with onsite IT staff and County IT staff to ensure the Office is operational.
·Manage IT staff by recruiting, training, and coaching employees, communicating job expectations and appraising their performance.
·Identify problematic areas and implement strategic solutions in timely manner.
·Handle annual budget and ensure cost effectiveness.
·Maintains all (in house) server hardware, software issues, upgrades and backups/upgrades and support for virtual network applications.
·Make sure all devices for cellular meet the cell phone policy requirements in the Mobile Device Management application.
·Work with Verizon and First Net vendors to keep the best connection for vehicles and officers.
·Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the Sheriff, Executive Command Staff, emergency deployment teams, and all end users.
·Monitors officer connection to the network through modems, which enables 911 to track the officer’s location if assistance is needed.
·Updates applications used by officers to the correct versions to keep support available through the vendors.
·Assists staff in learning, operating, and applying appropriate computer software and hardware, maintains link to agency website.
·Refers to programming and software manuals for troubleshooting purposes and identifying functionality.
·Assists in planning for future expansion of systems; meets with vendors to connect department off site; responsible for the internal network, trouble shooting network issues and providing connectivity where needed.
·Keeps a record of all devices on the network.
·Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Requires a high school diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED) however, a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in related field, and five (5) years of increasing responsibility and experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
Licenses or Certifications:
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Certifications preferred: CompTIA A and Security, CISSP, CompTIA Tech , CompTIA Network , CCNA
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines including computers, typewriters, calculators, copiers, facsimile machines, radios, telephones, postage machines, etc. Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Light Work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree however, if the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
