OB Technician

Location: Boone, North Carolina | Birthing Center | Non-Exempt

Working under the direction of licensed nurses, you will assist with patient care, procedures, and daily operations while contributing to a positive patient experience during one of life’s most important moments.

Compensation: Starting at $18.05/hour, based on education, experience, certification, and internal equity
Status: Non-Exempt

What You’ll Do as an OB Technician

Patient Care & Support

  • Assist licensed nurses in delivering safe, effective care to OB patients.
  • Provide basic patient care while ensuring comfort, dignity, and safety.
  • Support patient care activities under the direction of nursing staff.

Clinical Assistance

  • Assist with procedures and patient care tasks within scope of CNA certification.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient care environment.
  • Support clinical workflows to ensure efficient unit operations.

Communication & Teamwork

  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Foster a compassionate, respectful, and patient-centered environment.
  • Collaborate with nurses and interdisciplinary team members to support care delivery.

Safety & Responsiveness

  • Respond promptly to changes in patient condition and emergencies.
  • Follow organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Promote patient safety and quality outcomes in all aspects of care.

Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of a CNA I program listed with the North Carolina Healthcare Personnel Registry

Experience

  • Previous CNA experience preferred

Licensure & Certifications

  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA I) in the State of North Carolina
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association required at time of hire

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of CNA scope of practice and patient care standards
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, staff, and physicians
  • Competency in delivering safe and effective patient care within certification limits
  • Strong customer service skills with a compassionate approach
  • Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and basic computer skills

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, position, push, pull, and transfer patients weighing 50 pounds
  • Manual dexterity and mobility for patient care tasks
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, twisting, and turning
  • Prolonged sitting, standing, and walking during shifts
  • Near visual acuity for detailed patient care tasks

Work Environment

  • Regular exposure to bloodborne pathogens and clinical environments
  • Frequent exposure to medical equipment, chemicals, and bodily fluids
  • Requires flexibility for days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and emergencies
  • Extended standing and walking during shifts (8 hours)
  • Frequent communication, documentation, and repetitive hand movements
